Cross Country Skiing

St. Ignace is home to the Sand Dune Cross Country Ski Trail.  Just 11 Miles west of St. Ignace, seven groomed trails, varying in length from 1.5 to 7.6 miles, offer a challenge for the beginner to the expert.  This scenic trail winds through the ancient dunes of Lake Michigan.  The Ski Trail is a popular destination for advanced skiers looking for a challenge.  Loops A-D accommodate skiers from beginner level to intermediate, but be warned, Loop E is a challenging trail with several exciting climbs and descents through the pine and hardwood forests.  Loops F and G have steep hills and sharp turns that will prove to be a challenge for even the most advanced skier.  The trails are groomed for classic style cross country skiing.  There is ample parking, and outhouse, and a log warming cabin with a wood stove.  The scenery is spectacular and trails are fun for everyone!  The Sand Dune Cross Country Ski Trail are part of the Hiawatha National Forest, St. Ignace Ranger District.  Go west from St. Ignace on US-2.  Turn right (north) on Brevoort Lake Road and drive 0.4 mile north to the trail head on the left.
